Dalton Development Partnership

Sensory Garden

This valuable community project was undertaken by Dalton Town Council. The initial idea for the creation of this garden was conceived two years ago after residents of the Town told us that they would like to see more floral displays and garden areas for the public to enjoy. The completion of this project was enabled by a grant of over £20,000 from the Landfill Tax Grant Scheme whose grants are only available to communities who live in close proximity to landfill sites, although funds are limited and there is strong competition from many worthwhile projects. Dalton Development Partnership also made a significant contribution.

The Council strongly believe in supporting local businesses where possible and everyone involved from the design stage to artists impressions to hard and soft landscaping was from the Dalton area. The Council would like to thank Alan Greenwood, Keith Hardman and Brian Miller for their dedication and professionalism.

The Council were delighted when the Garden was recently awarded a Neighbourhood Award merit certificate issued by The Royal Horticultural Society and Cumbria in Bloom.

Mr Paul O’Neill from BBC Radio Cumbria’s Gardening Show officially opened the garden on 7th September 2006
