Christmas Events Leaflet

In 2007 Dalton was included in a Christmas leaflet produced by Barrow Borough Council and Lake District Peninsulas Tourism Partnership but this only advertised events up to 10th December. This year the Town Council are working closely with Dalton with Ireleth and Askam Festival Association to produce a leaflet dedicated to Christmas Events held in Dalton and the surrounding area. If you are holding an event and would like some free publicity please let us know the details and contact point, so we can include them in the leaflet. Events could be arranged by schools or community groups, events could be coffee mornings, carol concerts etc. Please let us know at the Town Hall by Friday 19th September at the latest.

Proposed Post Office Closures

Public consultation on the proposed closure of post offices is now underway for the Cumbria Area.  Members of the Town Council voted unanimously to oppose the closure of the post office at Anty-cross.  Councillors have written to the Post Office consultations team and also MP John Hutton to make their objections known.  Figures released by the Post Office show that the average number of customers using this post office per session (week) is between 500 and 749.  It is unclear how accurate these figures are as the 'test' weeks used appear to have been at quieter times of the year and more realistic figures are probably much higher.  Anty-cross post office serves a large area of Dalton and also the outlying communities such as Newton and Stainton, the loss of this facility would cause real hardship and inconvenience to a large proportion of the community.  The suggestion that an alternative service can easily be accessed at Bowness Road, Barrow in Furness shows a complete lack of understanding of the type of user groups in Dalton, ease of access to public transport and geography of the area.

Closing date for the public consultation is 27 May 2008 and the Town Council would urge all residents to put their objections in writing and address it to:-
National Consultation Team, Post Office Ltd, FREEPOST Consultation Team. (No stamp required)

Dowdales

The school was awarded by the Town Council at a presentation in the Town Hall on 4th February in recognition of its recent outstanding achievements.
